From Kodak to Ophthalmology: a photographic journey
My passion for photography began at age 12 when I picked up a Kodak Retina Reflex S 35mm camera — a name that would later carry an ironic significance in my life.
My photographic pursuits naturally quieted during my college and graduate years as my focus shifted to a demanding new calling — training to become a Retina Specialist. The irony was not lost on me that the very camera that first sparked my love of seeing the world through a lens shared its name with the specialty I would dedicate my career to. Two different ways of bringing things into focus, separated by a lifetime of learning.
My career as a physician afforded me the opportunity to travel the world, and I eagerly brought my camera along every step of the way. The landscapes and wildlife I encountered became a source of inspiration, which I proudly displayed across our five Los Angeles offices — bringing beauty and calm to patients and staff alike. Embracing the Canon digital platform was a natural evolution, giving me tools to refine my images in ways that film never could.
Following my retirement from medicine, I turned my attention to curating my favorite images from a lifetime behind the lens and bringing them together on a dedicated website for others to enjoy. I appreciate the opportunity to share them with you, and I hope you find some of them as inspiring as my patients have over the years.
